Local developer NDC Builders (a subsidiary of Neighborhood Development Company) hired ECI to build another addition to our portfolio of DC Public Charter Schools, the Bilingual Community Academy. This 5-story city school, located on Upshur Street, NW, includes classrooms, offices, a kitchen and a multi-purpose room. ECI excavated and underpinned existing adjacent structures to shoe-horn the new building in between active local businesses, which operated continuously during construction.

The exterior features parking, as well as a large, outdoor playground made of recycled rubber. The playground and driveway are constructed over the multi-purpose room, which presented structural and waterproofing challenges, which ECI tackled with help from the professionals at NDC and Integrated Architecture of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
