This iconic Bethesda building was known to all as “that vacuum cleaner shop” for generations. Together ECI and local developer and Michael Belisle of architecture firm Michael Belisle Design repositioned this landmark at the busiest corner in the city, adding two levels while retaining the façade of the original structure. An elevator, stair tower and roof terrace were added, and restaurant infrastructure added at the ground floor. ECI built out the art gallery on the second level and an I.T. firm’s office on the third. Using inventive materials, projecting glass bays and creative desing, Belisle squeezed every inch out of this triangular lot and created a memorable work of art.
